Proof! Joe’s Pizza Buy the Slice on Pennsylvania carries Daiya. They will happily (the vegan employee who pushed for it took our order and cheered!) hook you up with a yummy vegan pizza and/or their cheese-covered bread sticks.

Happy New Year!
I spent the past two weeks visiting my family in Kansas City. It was so wonderful to see everyone, and I already miss them. 🙁
I spent much of the time snapping pictures of my ‘getting cuter by the day’ nephews and niece. Sorry other family members, but I didn’t get many…

Vegan Options at Nica’s 320
Have you been to Nica’s 320, the relatively new addition to Southwest Boulevard? I was curious about it but hadn’t given it much consideration until I discovered the other day the presence of tofu and homemade seitan on their lunch and dinner menu. Armed with their recent Groupon, we’ll be checking it out soon.
Cafe Gratitude Update
An email blast yesterday informs us that Cafe Gratitude is indeed still in the works. The owners got the keys to their building – the former Lulu’s location on Southwest Boulevard – and we should expect them to be in operation early this year.
McCoy’s Introduces More Vegan Options
McCoy’s Introduces More Vegan Options
McCoy’s is a local favorite for its cozy ambience, friendly & knowledgeable staff, and delicious menu – a little of which was vegan-friendly. Well, last week they introduced a new menu which includes several more vegan (and a few other vegetarian) options, all of which sound fantastic.
We’ll be by soon to try the new falafel wrap, the vegan thai curry with mock duck and the vegan masala with roasted cauliflower, chickpeas, raisins, and more.
Vegan & Vegetarian Apps
Check out this list of apps that make living vegan and vegetarian a little bit easier.
My favorite is VegScan, which scans UPC barcodes on food packages and will let you know if they’re vegan or vegetarian. Their database is still being populated, so if you download it, do your bit and add new foods – especially those that are ambiguous or that have required a little extra research. We introduced this app to my mother-in-law over Christmas and she was thrilled to have some help in grocery shopping while we were in town.
And check out the free VeganYumYum app for recipes from the website that lead to one of my very favorite vegan cookbooks. The recipe for her fantastic mac & cheese is one of those included!
Meatless in the Midwest?
A.G. Sulzberger disappointed that Stroud’s & Arthur Bryant’s aren’t veggie-friendly; confused about the lack of fresh local produce in January. This NYT article manages to insult vegetarian and non-vegetarian Midwesterners alike. I’m eating just fine in the heart of the country; are you?
Daiya at Joe’s Buy the Slice! This Westport institution announced this week that it is now offering the ever-popular Daiya on its 14” pizzas. Maybe we’ll luck out and be able to get it by the slice soon?
