I learned recently that Island Spice, the Caribbean restaurant just west of the intersection of 39th & Main is a secret source of veggie-friendly eats. While one might expect – and will find – the traditional oxtails and jerk chicken, the menu also includes tofu and vegetable dishes, a “Plantain Vegetable Medley,” and several veggie sides. We plan on stopping by soon to confirm which items are (or can be) vegan, and to have a sip of their homemade ginger brew. Let me know if you’ve already checked them out!

I have to say I agree on the coconut bacon – it tasted more like an odd, sweet, mayo-based salad (ala tuna- or egg-) to me, but I’m looking forward to checking out the rest of their menu soon.
Have you been to Cafe Gratitude since it opened in KC? What are your thoughts?
